The Institute of Photonics at the University of Strathclyde is an international leader in use_inspired photonics research, supported by strong industry engagement and state_of_the_art laboratory and cleanroom infrastructure. Its core strengths include: (1) Advanced Lasers, spanning solid_state, semiconductor, and VECSEL platforms, (2) Integrated Photonics and Materials, underpinned by hybrid photonic device integration, semiconductor micro_nanostructures, colloidal photonic materials and PIC technologies, (3) Neurophotonic Technologies, leveraging optogenetics, micro_LED arrays and advanced semiconductor processing to interface with neural systems, (4) Photonic AI and Information Processing, including next_generation light_emitter arrays and emerging neuromorphic and information_rich architectures, and (5) Free_Space Telecommunications, supported by visible_light micro-LED arrays and optical systems engineering. These capabilities directly support national and international priorities across semiconductors, quantum technologies, telecommunications, AI and neurotechnologies.
