About National Physical Laboratory

The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is the UK’s National Metrology Institute, de-veloping and maintaining the national primary measurement standards. As a public sector research establishment, we deliver extraordinary impact by providing the measurement capability underpinning the UK’s prosperity and quality of life. We de-velop the metrology required to ensure the timely and successful deployment of new technologies and work with organisations as they develop and test new products and processes. NPL is a Public Corporation owned by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) and have a partnering agreement with the University of Strath-clyde. NPL is part of the National Measurement System (NMS) delivers the UK Meas-urement Strategy on behalf of the DSIT NPL’s capabilities in Glasgow include cutting edge research and test & evaluation fa-cilities, providing traceability to national primary reference standards in Quantum Technologies, Timing and AI, located across the University of Strathclyde and Univer-sity of Glasgow
