About University of St Andrews – Institute of Engineering

The Institute of Engineering at the University of St Andrews provides an access point to engineering research expertise across the university. The institute supports multidisciplinary collaborative research activities across a community of 200 researchers and technical experts. It is structured in 5 pillars: AI and Data Engineering; Devices and Diagnostics; Energy and Materials; Engineering Biology; Sustainable Engineering. The institute runs a Rapid Prototyping Centre at the UniversityХs Eden Campus innovation hub, which provides access to external organisations. It can also facilitate access to a very wide range of facilities and expertise including for: environmental sensing and monitoring systems such as in marine and harsh environments; electronic materials engineering and characterisation; energy harvesting and storage; medical instrumentation; biotechnology.

Open for R&D and collaborations

The Institute of Engineering is open to collaborations with industry and research organisations, including for consultancy and joint R&D projects. We are open to discussing specific needs including access to rapid prototyping, sensor development, materials characterisation, optical testing facilities and services.
