About Heriot-Watt University – Quantum Photonics Laboratory

The Quantum Photonics Laboratory within Heriot Watt University consists of seven academic research group leaders with expertise across a range of platforms and applications in quantum photonics. Our specialist skillsets range from constructing sophisticated optical and electronic measurement apparatus for room- and low-temperature experimentation, through computational modelling using analytic and finite-element methods of diverse physical effects, to design and microfabrication of 2D material and semiconductor (SiC, Si, SiO2) microdevices. We perform microfabrication work in-house at the Heriot-Watt Cleanroom with advanced capability for photolithography/EBL, dry etching and thin film deposition.

Where to meet us

Quantum 2.0 (Glasgow June 2026), International Conference on Silicon Carbide and Related Materials (Yokohama September 2026)

Open for R&D and collaborations

Interested in collaborative projects in quantum information, communication and sensing technologies/components, semiconductor devices and integrated quantum-photonic components, especially for the silicon carbide material platform.
