Avicena Tech is developing LightBundle, a microLED-based optical interconnect platform targeting AI scale-up networks and data-center links where power and I/O density are the bottlenecks. LightBundle uses arrays of microLED transmitters and silicon photodetector (PD) receivers, enabling very high bandwidth density (reported >1 Tbps/mm shoreline density) and ultra-low energy/bit performance (including demonstrated operation at tens to hundreds of fJ/bit Tx energy under lab conditions). Avicena’s differentiated capability is integrating dense emitter/receiver arrays into a chiplet-style optical engine that simplifies packaging versus laser/modulator approaches and extends short-reach electrical interfaces into multi-meter optical links. A key positioning area is microLED interconnects for datacenters, including active optical cables >3 m using microLEDs as the light source.
