Gas Sensing Solutions

Gas Sensing Solutions (GSS) is a vertically integrated UK semiconductor manufacturer based in Cumbernauld, Scotland, specialising in solid-state NDIR CO₂ sensing. Uniquely among gas sensor manufacturers, GSS designs and grows its own mid-infrared LEDs and photodetectors in-house using Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE), giving full control over the optoelectronic supply chain from epitaxial wafer through to finished sensor module. This vertical integration underpins our CozIR®, ExplorIR®, and SprintIR® product families, delivering low-power, high-accuracy, ATEX/IECEx-rated sensors for air quality, industrial safety, and medical applications. Our core IP lies in III-V compound semiconductor epitaxy for mid-IR optoelectronics, combined with sensor design and signal-processing expertise developed over two decades. As one of the few UK-based MBE foundries operating outside academia, GSS is positioned as a strategic sovereign supply chain asset within the UK’s National Semiconductor Strategy, with active expansion into multi-gas sensing (CH₄, H₂, NH₃, O₂) and defence/critical-technology applications.
