BRL Laser Damage Ltd

BRL Laser Damage Limited is the UK’s test house for laser damage testing and certification, and the only fully independent laboratory in the world in this field. The key services provided are laser damage testing, both threshold (LIDT – laser-induced damage threshold) and certification (pass/fail) over a wide variety of parameters. The staff offer an extended range of metrology and consultancy to support the photonics industry in high power and/or extremely low loss laser-based systems. These include photothermal absorption interferometry (PCI) for characterising surface/coating and bulk absorption in materials at the part-per-million level, automated cavity ringdown (CRD) to measure total optical losses of mirrors and windows, and spectrophotometry across the UV and mid-IR ranges. Due to the nature of our business, we are intrinsically linked with industrial and academic partners across the UK and Europe who are developing, manufacturing and exploiting photonics and quantum-enabled technologies.
