Scotland’s Critical Technologies Supercluster was recently showcased at Microelectronics UK 2026, represented by Technology Scotland, the industry body and Cluster Management Organisation for Scotland’s critical and enabling technologies sector.
Held at ExCeL London on 29-30 September, the event provided a valuable opportunity to promote Scotland’s strengths across photonics, quantum technologies, semiconductors, connectivity and sensing, while engaging with organisations from across the wider UK and international technology ecosystem.
With support from the Scottish Government’s Strategic Cluster Programme, the Supercluster expanded its presence at this year’s event through a dedicated exhibition stand that acted as a base for members to meet partners, explore new opportunities and highlight Scotland’s capabilities to a diverse audience.
The event highlighted the value of bringing together organisations from across the critical technologies landscape. Throughout the two days, discussions focused on innovation, supply chain development, commercialisation and collaboration, all areas that sit at the heart of the Supercluster’s ambitions for Scotland.
A particularly encouraging takeaway was the growing recognition of Scotland’s Critical Technologies Supercluster among event attendees. Many visitors were already familiar with the initiative and its work to strengthen collaboration across Scotland’s critical technologies sectors, reflecting the increasing visibility of both the Supercluster and the capabilities it represents.
Alongside the exhibition programme, Technology Scotland’s Director of Photonics Scotland, Alison McLeod, chaired a panel discussion on Photonics for Space-Based Systems, exploring how photonics technologies are enabling applications ranging from Earth observation and remote sensing to next-generation space missions.
As demand for advanced technologies continues to grow, events such as Microelectronics UK provide an important platform to raise Scotland’s profile, build new partnerships and reinforce the country’s position as a leading location for critical technologies innovation and manufacturing.
The Supercluster looks forward to continuing these conversations and building on the connections made at the event over the months ahead.
