Quantcore has been named winner of the Institute of Physics qBIG Prize 2026, recognising its work to bring quantum technology products and solutions closer to market.
The qBIG Prize is awarded by the Institute of Physics’ Quantum Business Innovation and Growth Group to companies working in quantum technology commercialisation. Quantcore was recognised for its development of next-generation superconducting quantum computing hardware based on niobium, alongside high-performance single-photon detectors, supporting scalable quantum computing, sensing and communication.
A University of Glasgow spin-out, Quantcore is developing and manufacturing advanced quantum hardware components, including processors and sensors, for use in quantum computing and sensing systems. Its success highlights the important role of university spin-outs in translating research expertise into commercial opportunity.
The recognition is also an important one for Scotland’s Critical Technologies Supercluster, where quantum is one of four key technology areas alongside photonics, semiconductors, and sensing and connectivity. Quantcore’s award is a strong example of the specialist capability developing within Scotland’s quantum ecosystem, and of the connections between academic research, commercialisation, and critical technology development.
Congratulations to Quantcore on this fantastic achievement.
