On Thursday 26th March, Scotland’s Critical Technologies Supercluster launched a new capability map featuring over 160 organisations, alongside a new website and hero video, creating a digital front door to the ecosystem.

Scotland’s Critical Technologies Supercluster (SCTS) brings together Scotland’s strengths in photonics, quantum, semiconductors, and sensing & connectivity into one integrated ecosystem to support innovation and growth.
The launch was marked at an evening reception in Glasgow, which brought together more than 100 senior stakeholders from across the critical technologies community, including industry and academia, alongside representatives from the wider public sector. See more photos from the evening.
The event also provided an opportunity to recognise the 20th anniversary of the James Watt Nanofabrication Centre, a founding partner of SCTS, whose work has helped support Scotland’s critical technologies sector over the past two decades.

About the capability map
The capability map is the first interactive resource dedicated to Scotland’s critical technologies ecosystem and showcases Scotland’s strengths for national and international audiences.
With participation from over 160 organisations, the map provides a clear overview of the expertise and assets active across Scotland’s critical technology landscape. By bringing this information together in one place, it will help stakeholders understand current capabilities, identify potential collaborators, and support informed decision-making across the ecosystem.

In addition to the capability map, the new website provides a home for Scotland’s critical technologies ecosystem, while a supporting hero video introduces the supercluster and its purpose.
Together, these digital assets will support engagement across government and the public sector, inward investment, industry, academia, and the wider ecosystem. They will make it easier to navigate Scotland’s critical technologies landscape, encouraging collaboration and investment.
Alan Anderson, Senior Director of R&D at Optos, Chair of SCTS Advisory Board said
“The launch of the capability map presents a great opportunity for Scotland’s Critical Technologies Supercluster, bringing together our strengths across photonics, quantum, semiconductors, and sensing & connectivity and creating a digital front door to the ecosystem. It will become a valuable asset for Scotland, making it easier to understand our capabilities, identify collaborators, support innovation across the ecosystem, and highlight key opportunities for inward investment.”
